Stanley Moss at Chetham’s Library
Local poetry imprint Carcanet Press has invites another acclaimed international poet to the city, and this time it’s the turn of American writer and art dealer Stanley Moss, who’ll be speaking at the historic Chetham’s Library. Moss’s career has spanned four decades and several collections, culminating in his latest work Almost Complete Poems, which he will be reading from on the evening. Booking ahead is essential if you want to reserve a seat for this sought-after reading.

Lego Club at Levenshulme Market (pictured)
The ever-popular pastime makes its way to Levenshulme Market this Saturday, with the market’s first Lego Club organised by Build It! a group that runs bespoke Lego parties. For two hours in the morning, little ones can engage in block-based anarchy, utilising Build It’s wide selection of coloured building materials. This one’s not technically free, but with a £1 cover charge for kids – and an additional £1 to cover any adults in the group – it’s a great-value way to break up a morning spent perusing the markets.

South Island Son at Barber Below
A barber’s shop might seem a strange location for a gig, but it’s exactly what music promoters Short, Back & Sides specialise in. Having previously run gigs at Trof, they started to take their own moniker literally last year with a run of shows in hairdresser’s, and this weekend they’re coming to the Northern Quarter’s Barber Below. Electric folk outfit South Island Son headline this late night gig, with Over the Hills and 13th Procession filling out the bill. It’ll be a truly unique show, but get down early because the venue isn’t terribly spacious.
