Yearbook Launch at West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC
Local football club West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC are launching their yearbook this Friday with a party at their club house. You can pick up a copy of the book, and take in the work of its designer Lew Currie – whose work will be on display in the venue. See our full preview for more information.

This Saturday you’ll be able to catch a free festival in someone’s actual house. Something Ukranian is the latest in MIF’s Festival In My House series: Where an artist or performer opens their home to strangers, offering up a free micro-festival. British-Ukrainian Manchester resident Olia Fedechko Bennett invites you to join her for a showcase of Ukrainian culture: From visual art to performance and music. The location of the festival is kept under wraps until the day – so register early to get the address.

Perseid Meteor Shower
This Saturday night you can catch one of nature’s great cosmic events: Meteor showers streaking across the night’s sky. Of course, this isn’t a Manchester-specific event – most of the world will be able to catch the falling stars – but Britain is ideally placed longitudinally to see them in action. If you can, get out of the city to a less light-polluted area like the Peak District and witness all the wonders of the Universe.

Second-hand Book Sale at Elizabeth Gaskell House
On Sunday, Elizabeth Gaskell House is hosting a second-hand book fair. This monthly event allows you a snoop around the 19th Century novelist’s home, and at the same time you can be perusing stalls stacked with old books from local sellers, pressed shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow literature lovers. It’s a great place to scoop a bargain read on a damp Sunday.
