In centuries gone by, whenever the Thames froze over, Londoners would celebrate with huge fairs out on the ice. You might have seen these referenced in a recent episode of Doctor Who. And at the beginning of December, The Whitworth Gallery will aim to recreate the feel one of these Frost Fairs, but without the massive safety risk. This free, weekend-long event celebrates winter, art, and togetherness. It also marks 250 years of the circus tradition in Britain, with Ringmaster Baron Bazaar and his troupe of performers entertaining the crowds. There will be a craft market, arts activities, live music, and an outdoor cinema. Street food and a seasonal-themed bar will keep you sustained throughout. The Fair ends on the Sunday evening with a fireworks display.
