Manchester has a long association with gaming – that Goldeneye game you probably played as a teenager was made here – and it’s apt that this year’s Manchester Day parade is themed around it. The iPlayGaming Festival, taking place at Gorilla a week before the parade, is a social gaming and grill festival – the first of its kind in the city – allowing Mancunian gamers an opportunity to get their hands on a cavalcade of retro games, from Duck Hunt to Destruction Derby, while also tucking into tournaments in the modern multiplayer powerhouses of Halo and Call of Duty. After securing the title of Best Burger in Manchester, Gorilla is the ideal place to tuck into to some grilled treats while your thumbs are recovering. The main attraction though is a preview of the forthcoming game Beyond Flesh and Blood, developed by local studio Pixelbomb Games: the game sees you controlling a battle-ready mechanoid stalking a post-apocalyptic Piccadilly, splattering assailant’s all over Ancoats. Suitably violent entertainment to accompany a meaty food menu.
