Following rave reviews and sold-out shows, Actor’s Touring Company stage the English language version of Winter Solstice at HOME. Starting the company’s 40th Anniversary year, the comedy shows a supposedly normal middle class Western family ready to celebrate Christmas in Germany. The tensions at the heart of the family are highlighted in Roland Schimmelpfennig’s play, translated from the original German. The drama unfolds as the mother meets a charismatic and persuasive man who seems to bring a new discourse that harks back to an older time. With a changing political landscape and changes in the political discourse happening around the world, Winter Solstice is a timely production from Germany’s most performed playwright that touches on family, politics, and the tensions between groups.
