The closing Gesamtkunstwerk this Friday at Islington Mill differs vastly from the night’s previous six outings, acting as a showcase for the promotion’s home imprint Tesla Tapes – albeit with a marked and distinct difference. Decamping in the dark heart of the Islington Mill, the label’s in-house equipment and audio contraptions will be docked like some alien motherboard for the vast array of their artists to drop in and out of an ever-mutating and constant barrage of kaleidoscopic sonics and deep, dark psychedelia. Those taking their turns manning the station include all the members of Gnod (pictured) in the respective entities: Dwellings; Druss; Negra Branca; and AHRKH, plus label mates Yes Blythe, Raikes Parade and the scene legend Mike O’Neil pitching in to propel the sound. Vinyl damage comes courtesy of Gesamt regulars Vulj, Hess and Replicunt. There are no set times, no headliners and no planned let-up over the 11 hours these head cases have curating the Mill; just a seething, miasmic mass of pure sound and constant, an inventive collaboration between those playing. It’s the kind of night Sun Ra would be hosting, had he not returned to Saturn. And for those wishing to join the great man, Friday night is the perfect launch pad to find out that Space Is The Place.
