Can’t face the crowds gathering across the city for the numerous bank holiday events this weekend? Escape to the Peak District and get your ramble on instead. Meeting up on the penultimate Saturday of every month, The Deaf Institute’s Rambling Club pull on their hiking boots and make their way to a rural haven – this month to Glossop (pictured) in Derbyshire. Starting the day with a hearty breakfast in The Deaf Institute’s café bar, the Rambling Club will then make its way to Oxford Road station to catch a train to Glossop for a nine-mile circular fell walk. With a printed map and directions for everyone, make your way along the path of old World War 2 crash sites and take in the scenic, semi-mountainous views. Just make sure you bring layers, waterproof clothing, a picnic and some extra cash for a well-earned stop at a country pub at the end. Then ramble away.
Sat 24 Aug, Meet at The Deaf Institute, 35 Grosvenor Street, M1 7HE, Tel: 0161 276 9350, 11am – 7pm, train ticket £4, breakfast approx £7, www.thedeafinstitute.co.uk
