Lightwaves festival of light art returns with nine artistically-innovative lighting projects spread across Salford Quays. Artworks are located in the Plaza, the Lowry Outlet, MediaCityUK’s Piazza, the River Irwell and other locations. Highlights include a new commission called Heart Beat by GNI Project, which has been co-produced with Blackpool Illuminations (pictured), Footsteps by Sam Sebbage, which consists of 80 illuminated footsteps walking a path and Fire Flies by Fixed Grinn Collective made from hundreds of floating LED spheres which interact with their surroundings – and the public.
