Manchester Art Gallery will host an evening of food foraging demonstrations, talks and tastings this Thursday. This workshop is hosted by wild food expert Jesper Launder, who will introduce participants to seasonal wild food delights including young plant shoots, roots and health-giving gourmet wild mushrooms. The event, presented in collaboration with Cracking Good Food, will also mark Charles Dickens’ 201st birthday – via its links with Turner Prize nominee Spartacus Chetwynd’s piece ‘The Walk to Dover’ a contemporary art intervention in MAG’s 19th Century Galleries, inspired by Dicken’s novel David Copperfield. During Copperfield’s walk to Dover to find his aunt, he survived by foraging for food – prompting a rethink about what foraging means today. The evening will include other Copperfield-related activities from 6pm, plus wild food-related items on MAG Cafe’s menu.
