So, still no Michelin stars for Manchester, despite the city having seriously upped its game in recent months with the reopening of The French under Simon Rogan’s watchful eye. Following the publication of new Michelin Guide, opinions seem to be flying about from all corners (including Jay Rayner over on Twitter and Guardian food critic Marina O’Loughlin), with many stamping their feet and proposing it’s just not fair; others softly suggesting that maybe Manchester needs to just stick to what does best and leave the pretentious prizes to those who really care. But it’s not all doom and gloom as Ramsbottom’s Hearth of the Ram wins the “Bib Gourmand” accolade, awarded to those offering an enjoyable yet affordable 3 course meal for £28 or less. The Hearth of Ram is well worth a visit – and with head chef Abdulla “Naz” Naseem (formerly of award-winning Ramsons) at the helm, it’s no surprise that such a recommendation now has Michelin backing.
