Grimmfest, Manchester’s grand celebration macabre movies, is returning this October. Now in its seventh year, the event is bigger than ever and has moved to the new venue of the Odeon at the Printworks. Over the course of four days, there will be 20 feature films and a host of shorts – all of them horror, sci-fi, cult and dark fantasy. The 2015 festival programme includes UK premieres including He Never Died, a comedic horror starring the punk singer turned actor Henry Rollins as an immortal cannibal; Synchronicity, a sci-fi noir in the vein of Blade Runner and Dark City; and Excess Flesh is a body shocker about one woman’s insane jealousy over her attractive flatmate.

Thu 1 – Sun 4 Oct, Odeon Manchester, The Printworks, Withy Grove, Manchester, M4 2BS, screening times vary, £69 (full festival pass), grimmfest.com
