5 must-see musicals coming to Lowry

Fresh from two wildly successful UK tours and sold-out concerts at the London Palladium, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s madcap, macabre classic The Addams Family comes to Lowry this August with a live orchestra, all-ages musical comedy and a star-studded cast including Alexandra Burke (The X Factor, Sister Act, The Bodyguard) , Lesley Joseph (Birds of a Feather, Young Frankenstein, Sister Act), Clive Rowe (The Prince of Egypt, Sister Act, A Christmas Carol) and Ricardo Afonso (Jesus Christ Superstar, Thriller Live, We Will Rock You).

Set to music and lyrics by Tony-nominated writer Andrew Lippa, The Addams Family welcomes theatre-lovers from ages 7 to 307 to enjoy the ultimate spooky spectacular with an original twist.

Now all grown up, brooding princess of darkness Wednesday Addams has fallen in love with a sweet, modest young mortal man from a respectable family – a secret only her father Gomez knows. With his beloved Morticia none the wiser, Gomez must jump through every hoop to keep Wednesday’s romance under wraps until the families meet for a fateful dinner, with hilarious and unexpected consequences.

From Mon 22 to Sat 27 Sep, the acclaimed West End production of Buddy brings a feel-great feast to Lowry in an electrifying chronicle of the iconic, ill-fated young musician.

Featuring two spellbinding hours of all-time great songs including Oh Boy, Rave On, La Bamba, Shout and Johnny B. Goode and more, Buddy breathes new life into one of the the greatest stories in music history with ‘enough energy to blow the national grid’ (Plymouth Herald).

One of only four musicals to run for more than 10,000 performances on the West End, Willy Russell’s critically acclaimed production of Blood Brothers reimagines the poignant tale of two twins who, separated at birth and raised on opposite sides of the tracks, meet as adults with fateful consequences.

Dubbed ‘the Standing Ovation Musical’, Blood Brothers promises to bring audiences to their feet with a ‘triumphant evening’ (Spectator) of dramatic delight, set to a score which includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the deeply evocative hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
