Proving once more that not all the best comedy is up in Edinburgh this month, we’ve got three excellent shows for you to take in a little closer to home including Dan Nightingale and Hayley Ellis.

Bethany Black at Blizzard Comedy | Mon 8 Aug | 7pm | FREE

Manchester’s most inclusive comedy night returns for its usual Monday night spot with a stellar lineup of alternative stand-up to kick start your week. Bethany Black headlines an eclectic bill featuring Umby Winters, The Impish Scribe and Amarpal Singh. Hosted by usual MC Jonny Collins, it continues to prosper in its cozy Gullivers home, and long may that last.

Gullivers, 109 Oldham Street, Manchester M4 1LW
Dan Nightingale at XS Malarkey | Tue 9 Aug | 7.30pm | £6/3

Though he’s more used to selling out arenas these days with his smash hit podcast Have A Word, Nightingale will always have a special place in his heart for XS Malarkey. So best to get down and see him in XS’s more familiar surrounds of The Bread Shed this week as he trots out some new stuff before his nationwide tour later in the year.

The Bread Shed, 126 Grosvenor Street, Manchester M1 7HL
Hayley Ellis at The Frog & Bucket | Sun 14 Aug | 7.30pm | £8-10

Hayley Ellis bucks tradition by placing a tour show right in the middle of the Edinburgh Fringe. Excellent counter programming from one of the best comedians in the North West. Ellis weaves hyper relatable tales of motherhood and lockdown in new show ‘The Invisible Mam’ and she’s already selling out shows in this her debut UK tour. Get a ticket if you can.
