Drunk Women Solving Crime, Laurence Clark and lots of love for Fierce Bar make up our comedy picks this week.
Award-winning comedian and writer Laurence Clark is the latest headliner to grace The Bread Shed stage for XS Malarkey and he brings with him the driest of wits, a satirical edge unmatched by most and a skewed viewpoint that never fails to have audiences in stitches. Laurence will be joined by young hopeful Faizan Shah who’s been gathering quite the amount of buzz on the Manchester circuit and giant of stand-up (both literal and metaphorical) Rob Mulholland who’ll has established himself as one of the North’s premier road comics.
If you listen to this podcast you’ll no doubt already have your seat booked. If not, then you’ve got a few days to binge it, love it, and book it. Each episode sees the boozed-up panel of writer/comedian hosts Hannah George, Catie Wilkins and Taylor Glenn test out their drunk detective skills and solve true crime cases and with their live shows they invite a local comedian to help them with their mystery. In the past they’ve had the likes of Katherine Ryan, Ricki Lake, Deborah Frances -White, Sara Pascoe, and Shazia Mirza become junior detectives so grab a drink and your headphones and get sleuthing.

After waxing lyrical about the good things happening at Fierce Bar comedy wise last week we thought we’d give a shout to where a lot of those shows are stemming from. Every week the Thomas Street boozer offers an open sign up on a Monday and promises “5 minute sets. 15 comics. Beer.” Can’t say fairer than that can you really. It’s a welcoming environment and has coaxed down a lot of more established acts trying new stuff as well as fresh hopefuls working on their first sets. A must for any Manchester comedy fan.
