The Edinburgh Fringe begins next week and with it a great migration of comic talent heading further North, though you wouldn’t know it from the shows featured here including a special XS Malarkey with Kemah Bob at Manchester Academy.
Although it may seem like all of the comedy world heads to Edinburgh for a month every summer there’s large swathes that hold back knowing the cost of doing the Fringe, and that people still need to find laughs closer to home.
Provided you call Chorlton and its surrounds your home then you’re in luck as Paul Pirie headlines an excellent night of stand-up at Chorlton Comedy Club this week. Ably supported by The Parapod’s Barry Dodds and rising star Jenny Hart, you’ll also be treated to Roger Monkhouse’s consummate compering skills.
If you can’t make a Friday night, then why not head to the posher version of Chorlton for Didsbury Comedy Club on Sunday evening. A perfect end to the week hosted by Freddy Quinne who’s currently smashing the podcast world with his new venture Dead Men Talking alongside Rob Mulholland. Quinne’s no holds barred style is perfect for compering and ensures a side-splitting night with support from Noel James, Scott Bennett and Natalie Husdan.

XS Malarkey are going on their holidays…and you’re invited along! Kemah Bob headlines a very special outing for XS as they take over Manchester Academy 3 for one night only with cracking support from Eddie French and Aaron Wood. Texan stand-up Kemah is one of the most exciting comics in the country and has regularly featured on The Guilty Feminist podcast. A must see.
