Laura Lexx headlines at XS Malarkey, there’s a double header from two of the city’s favourite comics at Gullivers and ‘I, Daniel Blake’ himself Dave Johns stops by The Carlton Club.
There’s a double helping of excellent previews this Wednesday night, and it’s all for FREE! Jain Edwards and Hannah Platt recently shared a stage at the former’s show at Chapeltown Picture House and everyone who saw both their performances is sure to want a second serving this week. Jain’s new endeavour is more personal than her past dalliances with character comedy (RIP Top Bodybuilder Brian), whereas Hannah Platt has been honing her talents ready for a debut show at this year’s Fringe. Both look set to light up the city of a dreary Wednesday night. Make sure you get down early to bag a seat.
Although he is recently better known for his acting ability in the likes of Ken Loach’s ‘I, Daniel Blake’, Dave Johns has some three decades and change of stand-up comedy under his belt. Having made appearances on the likes of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats and gigged around the world, he’ll be stopping by The Carlton Club in Whalley Range with some stand-up pals for a proper Saturday night out.

There are plenty of ways to get a book deal, but surely the strangest of the lot is Laura Lexx’s snaring one via a series of wholesome tweets about a fictional love affair with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. If she can do that with just a few hundred characters in a tweet, imagine what she can do live on stage! This Tuesday she headlines a cracking bill at XS Malarkey, and with a Live at the Apollo appearance also under her belt (probably should have lead with that) she’s out to brighten up your midweek.
