Alison Spittle and Lulu Popplewell at XS Malarkey | Tue 27 Jun | 7.30pm | £3/6

Another Tuesday, another sensational double preview at XS Malarkey. This week features a twofer from Alison Spittle and Lulu Popplewell, all brilliantly held together by Toby Hadoke as MC. Alison presents Soup, and those who’ve listened to her episode of the Off Menu Podcast will know all about her soup whatsapp group she’s found herself in. Self-effacing and jaw achingly hilarious, Spittle is one of the best and this latest personal show looks set to be her best yet. In the other half of this double bill Lulu Popplewell will be looking at her life as a child star in the perfectly titled ‘Actually Actually’. What happens after you’ve played the Octopus in the nativity of one of the UK’s most beloved films? Let Lulu fill you in.

Jonny Pelham at The Laughienda | Thu 29 Jun | 7.30pm | FREE

Another act that’s testing out his new hour of comedy is Bradford’s favourite son Jonny Pelham and latest work ‘Optimism Over Despair’. Pelham has been consistently one of the best stand-up comics working in the UK since he burst onto the scene a few years ago. Since then, he’s appeared on Mock The Week, Russell Howard and Live At The Apollo, as well as making documentaries for Channel 4 and serving as a script editor on BAFTA winning TV shows like Alma’s Not Normal. More than enough reason for optimism you’d think, and in this latest show Pelham tries his best to focus on the positives whilst the negatives gain traction all throughout the world.

Jo Caulfield & Jamie Hutchinson at Didsbury Comedy Club | Sun 2 Jul | £12

What better way to finish off a week of previews than with not one, but two more previews! This time in Didsbury with two of the most distinctive voices on the comedy scene. Jo Caulfield has long been one of Edinburgh’s stalwart performers and the razor-sharp stand-up returns with a show perfectly titled Razor Sharp. Jamie Hutchinson will be testing out his new show ‘Waterslide’ that already has three sold out performances at the Frog & Bucket coming later in the year and the buzz is already massive about Hutchinson’s debut tour.
