Rhys Darby celebrates 25 years of comedy at Albert Hall, Gavin Webster headlines XS Malarkey and there’s a double preview at Fierce Bar.

Gavin Webster at XS Malarkey | Tue 7 Nov | 7.30pm | £3/6

The descriptor ‘club comic’ has become something of a pejorative over the last couple of decades. The idea that everyone who plies their trade in the comedy clubs up and down the country is something akin to Bernard Manning, and where this is, for the most part, massively unfair, it’s also missing those skilled comics that can work any room they’re put in front of with no great skill and unbelievable comedy chops. One such stand-up is Gavin Webster who is just plain funny and a brilliant communicator through surreality and mundanity, Webster can play any room so it’ll be nice to see him play XS at their new home of 53Two.

Rhys Darby at Albert Hall | Wed 8 Nov | 8pm | £27.50-32.50

The man once primarily known as Murray, the hapless manager of New Zealand’s second best folk parody double act The Flight of the Conchords, Rhys Darby is currently enjoying a renaissance as Stede Bonnet in the brilliant pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death. As enjoyable as he is in both of these roles, and countless other roles over the years, Darby truly comes alive on the stand-up stage and he’ll be celebrating 25 years in the job with some of his best bit at Albert Hall for a midweek treat.

Molly McGuinness and Frankie Monroe at Fierce Bar | Sat 11 Nov | 7.30pm | £5

Treat yourself this Saturday night to a double bill of previews from two of the North’s most exciting acts for just a fiver. Two differing comedy styles join forces as heir apparent to Caroline Aherne’s lo-fi comedy charm Molly McGuinness and Joe Kent-Walter’s comic character Frankie Monroe to take over Fierce Bar for the evening. A chance to get a sneak peek at two future Fringe stars and there’s talk of a buffet too. What’s not to love?
