We’re halfway through January and dear lord do we need a laugh. Thankfully this week Manchester’s comedy scene has really pulled it out of the bag with some of our favourites heading to town to stop us all feeling blue.

XS Malarkey: Sean McLoughlin | Tue 18 Jan | 7.30pm | £6/3

Sean McLoughlin is quite simply one of the finest stand-up comedians working in the UK and that he’s not constantly on every panel show is frankly baffling. A master of joke craft and with an extremely dark side McLoughlin is a wonder to watch live. Treat yourself.

The Bread Shed, Grosvenor Street, Manchester M1 7HL
Laughięnda with Kiri Pritchard-McLean | Thu 20 Jan | 7.30pm | FREE

Manchester’s favourite free new comedy night is back for its first outing of the new year and they bring with them the gift of Kiri Pritchard-McLean. The Lions Den comedy club has proven itself a great place for comics new and old to try out bits and pieces and it’s always exciting to see what KPM has got up her sequinned sleeve.

Lions Den, 253 Deansgate, Manchester
The Dark Room | Sun 23 Jan | 7pm | £8/10

John Robertson’s live interactive video game experience takes over The Frog & Bucket once more and with no two shows ever being the same this is always a must-see. Robertson has kept folk gamely entertained on his Twitch channel throughout the pandemic but he really comes to life on stage, when the lights go out…
