With everything starting to open back up this week, all the talk has been about beer gardens, bar terraces and restaurants with outdoor seating. Who’s re-opening, who’s not. Who’s waiting that little bit longer. Who’s got bookings left (spoiler alert, no one).

At the same time, more new places are opening every week – and whilst you might think we’re reaching saturation point, they’re often filling a previously unrecognised gap.

We know you’ve already made your drinking plans for the week, so thought we’d pick out some food spots to turn to when you get in.

Beef Wellington and lobster rolls in Wigan

Wigan, notorious as the home of the pie barm, now has both ends of the scale covered thanks to a new little place called North Eat. Here you’ll find herb-crusted racks of lamb, lobster brioche rolls, beef wellingtons from just £25, sliced up fillet steak and Moroccan lamb chops. Yes, please.

The fat sandos putting Whitefield on the map

New opening Fat Bun’s menu features four rotating sandwich combos, all named like their own Friends episode. House-made sauces, pickles and seasonings elevate these well above the humble lunch box staple. Top of our list is ‘the vegan one’: with deep-fried sweet potato noodles, sticky gochujang cauliflower, kimchi veganaise, pickled pineapple and daikon. Open Saturdays and Sundays, preorder in the week for curbside pickup.

Traditional tiffins from the pair behind Ancoats Distillery

Serving up tiffins the way their mothers made them, for Jessore Road MCR founders Peter and Raja authenticity is key. The name pays homage to the road travelled by the first generation of immigrants from India’s subcontinents, whilst the tiffins reflect those carried on the journey. Delivered in fully recyclable packaging or stainless steel tiffins (which you can keep and exchange), each meal includes a starter, main and rice with a choice of meat or vegetarian.

A new taco and tostada delivery service in Stretford

Order before Wednesday to get your Tuesday’s for the weekend.
