Tucked away down a side street, the Manchester Craft and Design Centre is a hidden gem right in the heart of the city. With its two floors of artists’ studios, it’s always a great place to browse around for a unique gift. However, the Centre has even more to offer: it has a dedicated learning space which is the venue for many fine workshops. There’s a wide variety to choose from all year round but below are four of the best that are coming up in the next few weeks…

Social Media Planning | Thu 16 Jan | 11am – 4pm | £30/£25

If you’re a small business owner, maker, artist or creative, then the start of a new year is the perfect time to think about improving your social media strategy. With this course, you’ll learn how to engage with your customers, analyse trends across different media channels and keep everything on track behind the scenes.

Make a Ring in a Day | Sat 18 Jan | 10am – 5pm | £75

This event is presented by the Manchester School of Jewellery and is hosted by two of the Centre’s very own resident makers. They will guide you through the ring making process and you’ll learn many different skills along the way. The price includes the materials to make one ring and more can be purchased if there’s time to make more.

Pewter Brooch Making | Sat 7 Mar | 10am – 1pm | £49

Here, you will make three unique brooches which you can proudly wear home. The host, Ella, will teach you how to shape the metal, add textures and polish. All materials are provided but you can bring your own textures and design inspiration pictures. The class is suitable for beginners and those with previous experience.

Make a Bangle in a Day | Sat 4 Apr | 10am – 4pm | £95

This course comes from the same folks behind number two on our list. You’ll practice with copper first and once you’ve refined your skills, you’ll move on to make a sterling silver bangle from scratch. There will be a wide range of wire sizes available. The price includes the cost of materials but gold embellishments are extra.
