There are still loads of great lockdown events to enjoy from your own home. We’ve rounded up the best free things to do at home this week, including National Theatre Live’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire – read on to find out what else you can get up to…
The Global Development Institute are hosting a talk on women’s empowerment with a digital focus this week from Dr Gindo Tampubolon of the University of Manchester. Dr Tampubolon will look at the topic in relation to Dhaka slums in 2018, drawing links between empowerment, mobile phone use and depression. The talk will take place on Zoom.
Manchester-based poet Hafsah Aneela (who has been reading a poem live on Instagram every day during lockdown) will be joined on Youtube by Kansas-based poet Aisha Sharif for a transatlantic reading and conversation. Manchester International Festival are behind this micro-international festival, taking place straight from the artist’s home.
Manchester-based singer-songwriter Minerva Daisy will be performing live from her own home in collaboration with CoronaGig. Playing some original music and some covers, this should make for a lovely Saturday evening supporting local music.
The people behind Manchester club night Resurrection have gone digital during lockdown, bringing a massive digital rave straight to your home. Tune into Global Hard House Radio anytime from noon this Saturday – the party will be going until 6am!
Continuing their isolation broadcasts that have been keeping viewers entertained during lockdown, Manchester Collective will be premiering a performance of Paradise Lost on Saturday at 8pm across their digital channels. This exciting musical collaboration pits electronic artist Vessel with acclaimed violinist Rakhi Singh to tell a classic story with a disruptive, modern twist.
National Theatre Live is still bringing one of their archived performances to the public every week. Available now is A Streetcar Named Desire, with Gillian Anderson. Originally performed at the Young Vic, this highly acclaimed performance really shouldn’t be missed – you have until Thursday to watch it on Youtube!
