There’s always something of a flat feeling after Christmas, perhaps this year more so than ever without the excitement of a big night out at New Year to keep the momentum going. But there are still loads of great events going on to tune into, so we’ve rounded up the best free things to do at home this week including some incredible online exhibitions from HOME and a New Year Haçienda house party — read on to find out more.
See out 2020 with an invigorating Vinyasa flow yoga session with Kate from lululemon. Simply tune in on Zoom and follow along at a level you’re comfortable with. It’s the perfect way to say goodbye to a difficult year and open yourself up to what 2021 has to offer.
New Year’s Eve plans looking a little unispisirng in comparison to previous years when you could actually go out? Never fear, United We Stream Greater Manchester and The Haçienda have the perfect solution – a 24-hour live-streamed house party with an incredible lineup of live guests and star DJs. It’s totally free to tune in, but you can make donations to support charitable causes – what’s not to love? This is one you definitely don’t want to miss!
HOME has made as much of their current gallery exhibitions available online as they can, with the work of three artist presentations available in the form of high resolution digital images. There are also interviews with the artists (Joy Yamusangie, Nick Burton and MSR FCJ) as well as a curator walkthrough, making the experience a little more immersive. There’s loads to get your teeth stuck into on their website, so if you’re really missing the chance to check out their exhibitions in real life, it’s well worth having an in-depth browse of their online content.
While Manchester Art Gallery is closed, they’ve made a curator’s tour of their Grayon’s Art Club exhibition available in video form online, so you can still experience something of the exhibition from home. During lockdown, artist Grayson Perry brought the nation together through art, hosting the show Grayson’s Art Club from his own studio. Works from the show, as well as works from the general public, make up the incredible exhibition that really captures the creative output of the nation during lockdown.
