This week’s picks of free things to Manchester includes a talk with Danish designer and creative Henrik Vibskov at Manchester Art Gallery.
On Tuesday morning, you can see a demonstration of one of The John Rylands Library’s impressive printing machines. The ornate Columbian printing press, manufactured in London in the early 19th century, is a unique slice of publishing history, with only a handful of presses still in use globally. A real treat for history and literature buffs alike.
Part of Design Manchester 2019, Danish creative and fashion designer Henrik Vibskov comes to Manchester Art Gallery for a fascinating discussion event. Vibskov will be talking through his design philosophy and career, which includes pieces from the gallery’s Nordic Craft and Design exhibition, and answering questions from the floor. At the time of writing, this event is listed as Sold Out, but it’s always worth checking in on the day for returns.
Chorlton’s Beech Inn throws down the gauntlet this Thursday evening, by running a quiz with three ‘difficults’ in its name. This is the fourth instalment of the Difficult Difficult Lemon Difficult Quiz, which promises a packed room, great prizes – including art, treats and booze – as well as rock hard questions. This one isn’t technically free to attend, but is very reasonably priced at two pounds per head. There will also be a collection for local charity Reach Out In The Community, so you’re encouraged to give generously.
