Free DJ sets from IDLES at YES and Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure at Electrik lead our picks of free things to do in Manchester this week.
Electrik’s One Deck Wednesday goes rogue this week as they ditch their usual one deck/all vinyl/no mixing rules, and throw out the decks entirely. This week’s vinyl-free set will be helmed by Line of Duty star Vicky McClure, joined behind the Macbook by actor and producer Jonny Owen, and podcaster Abs Ward. McClure and Owens have DJ’d at major music festivals across the country including Paleo and Bestival, and boast a breadth of music knowledge, with a iTunes playlist to match.
Charles Street’s YES host punk band IDLES this Wednesday evening for a free DJ party in the main bar following the band’s show at the Albert Hall. Don’t just expect punk, but a packed set covering pop, soul, heavy metal and everything in between. The perfect midweek rager, whatever your musical tastes.
The Royal Northern College of Music hosts this free showcase of new work from local theatremakers. It’s presented by Liberty Rep, a new theatre company that launched back in September of this year, and Who Even Are You is their first major project.

Spoken word and comedy night FLIM provides its own spin on the Tim Burton Christmas classic The Nightmare Before Christmas. The pitch of FLIM Nite is simple: Every month a film is chosen and reinterpreted scene-by-scene by a roster of artists, poets, comedians, musicians and puppeteers. Paid tickets can be booked in advance, otherwise it’s pay-what-you-feel on the door.
