It’s hotting up here in Manchester as we enter July – and England fans are slowly starting to believe. As we cheer on the team against Germany, there are loads of things on offer from our city’s cultural institutions – so here’s your weekly round-up of free things to do in Manchester, featuring My Utopia at the Carlton Club, Lothar Götz at Holden Gallery and much more…
Fancy attending a film premiere? A powerful new film from filmmaker Ben Green is debuting at HOME this week. The piece documents a group of artists and creatives from around Greater Manchester as they recover from substance abuse. Catch it on the big screen on Wednesday morning.
Here’s another artistic one: held at Whalley Range’s much loved Carlton Club, My Utopia is a collaboration between photographer Richard Kelly and Salford artist Emma Evans. The exhibition is a positive look at Manchester’s lockdown, with a nod to the future and a Manc world fully opened up!
The Holden Gallery’s latest exhibition is another addition to Manchester’s buzzing art scene. Götz works in the abstract and the architectural, spreading his vibrant art across huge installations. Pool is his new exhibit – a site-specific wall painting filling the gallery.
One final pick from the folks at Manchester Pride, who have developed their online offerings in lieu of the traditional parade and celebrations. This set of online skill share workshops was launched at the start of the month, with a number of high profile members of Greater Manchester’s top organisations. It’s a great chance to network with other LGBTI community members and learn some new skills.
