Heading into August, summer is in full flow in the city! And with lots of venues back to some sort of normal, there’s absolutely shedloads of things to get out and do this summer. Here’s our guide to the best free things to do in Manchester this week, including I Am Not Friday at Manchester Library, Celebrating Fleetwood Mac at Blues Kitchen and more.
Another one from the great folks at the Manchester Museum. Sixty Second Species presents a fact-file with hidden secrets and nuggets of juicy info about wild animals and plans from around the world – all filmed in the country of their origin.
This event is on a Wednesday (how apt). Did you read Robinson Crusoe as a kid? Well, this show re-tells it, complete with some survival skills that would give Bear Grylls a run for his money… Come along and see Janelle Thompson’s humorous one-woman show.
One of Manchester’s coolest new haunts is The Blues Kitchen in Spinningfields, one of the most evocative new spaces in town. Here, they present a night in celebration of Fleetwood Mac, followed by their own house band playing soul classics before you decide to ‘Go Your Own Way’ into the night…
Here’s a very cheery one to get you feeling energised – tick off your daily 2000 steps with this new free exercise class from The Lowry in the best possible online setting. There’s disco through the ages for you to strut your stuff to!
Coming to the Whalley Range stronghold, The Carlton Club, is their monthly car boot sale, Rummage in the Range. Dubbed an old school car boot sale based in Southside Suburbia, take this opportunity to explore 25 stalls full of secondhand goods alongside a load of great street food carts. With live music, street artists, and games, Rummage in the Range seeks to bring together the wider local community of Manchester in creating an atmosphere where everyone is included and there is something for all ages and backgrounds.
And finally… if the picks above don’t tickle your fancy, check out all the great free stuff happening across at MediaCity this summer! Beginning on Wednesday, events include a Cbeebies Hour on the big screen, and free dance and circus skills sessions with the Lowry’s performers.

Continuing the Museum’s series that explores the city’s relationship with nature, join the team from the Museum to get creative through natural craft techniques. The session runs weekly over the summer – so there’s plenty of opportunities to get involved.
