Say goodbye to the final summer month in style! This week, following the bank holiday Manchester Pride weekend, there are heaps of great free events that you can still get stuck in to. Here’s the rundown of the best free things to do as we start September, featuring Superbia Cinema, the Gayeux Tapestry and many more…
Check out Tom Quaye’s reimagination of the Bayeux Tapestry on this shopfront in Market Street that celebrates and chronicles the queer history of Manchester, showcasing both tragic events and moments of empowerment in support of AKT – an LGBTQ+ homeless charity. From the 1865 opening of The Union Hotel, a safe haven for sex workers and gay men, to the 1988 protest march against Section 28, the piece of legislation that bans the promotion of homosexuality in schools – this culturally rich piece of art is not to be missed!
Come and end the summer in style with this free family fun day at Davyhulme Park. With the end of summer in sight and the start of school just around the corner – why not check out this free event of family fun that’ll be sure to help you blow off steam before schools again? Expect penalty shootouts, soft archery, wet sponge throwing, ice cream vans, giant deckchairs, arts & crafts, ball games, and much more. While this is a free event, the School of Sport will be accepting small donations on the day for a local charity.
Riddim Culture is throwing a free day and night party this Saturday at Six Trees Bar and Kitchen so expect some of Manchester’s finest selectors covering a whole spectrum of music from Disco & UKG in the daytime before heading into Drum & Bass as they move through the evening. With rising Manchester D&B star, Nuaura, headlining alongside his arsenal of other great musicians and support – this event is not to be missed.
Nutella’s “Happy Portion” van is visiting five locations to spread some happiness this summer and Manchester is one of them! The lovely people at Nutella will be serving up some tasty recipes all topped with a delicious touch of Nutella (one heaped teaspoon, 15g). Check out the much-loved cocoa and hazelnut spread’s first-ever nationwide tour and enjoy a delicious breakfast completely free! Choose from one of two mouth-watering yet balanced breakfasts: granola with vanilla flavoured Greek yoghurt and forest fruits, or buckwheat pancake skewers with strawberries and banana, both topped with a delicious touch of Nutella.
