We finally enter the month of December this week and, with all the inevitable Sunday roasts, festive parties and all-round Christmas prep chaos that it brings – we’ve done you a solid and rustled together a handful of proper good things happening in and around the city to help ease the burden on your bank balance.
From art clubs in one of Chapel Street’s coolest creative spots to a full-evening funk affair over at Ramona – here’s this week’s rundown of the best free things to do in Manchester this week…
Following the success of their first event back September, the MIXHER girls are BACK bringing you a festive social and open decks this Thursday at Feel Good Club.
Calling all female and non-binary DJs from Manchester looking to show off their skills, the MIXHER girls are excited to put on a sweet showcase of good vibes, good chat and, of course, excellent tunes.
If you’re keen to bring on the festivities of the weekend early, look no further than Ramona as purveyors of UK and global club sounds, Bombard Groove & Kultura Collective, will be uniting for a free party in the buzzing MOT garage.
The likes of Lea Olivia, Vice City Soundtrack and Nimble Lou from Bombard Groove will be spinning all their funkiest tunes while Belk, Lo5ive, Ynigo and ZJ from Kultura promise to get you grooving from the late night until the early hours of Saturday morning.
This Saturday night, Michael Slavin, from Greater Manchester Tenants Union, has organised a jam-packed evening of film, live music and a cracking DJ set to finish it all off.
The event, which still has a number of ‘affordable’ free tickets on sale, will feature a screening of the 2014 Film, Pride, which focuses on the support shown to the Miner’s strike by the LGBTQIA+ community in the 80s.
After the film, attendees will be treated to a healthy dose of live music from the incredible Third Kulture alongside Manchester-based DJ Sebastien Astbury who is fresh from his Boiler Room debut at the Warehouse Project.
Head over to raise some money for a great cause with all profits going to Trans Mutual Aid Manchester and Rainbow Noir.
If you’re wanting to peruse a Christmas market but can’t bear the anarchy of town, swing by GRUB’s indie take on the December pastime which features a whole load of amazing local makers.
With free-flowing mulled wine, street food stalls and traditional tunes to really get you in that festive feeling, this is a great chance to shop local and support the small businesses of Manchester in the run-up to the big day.

If you’ve yet to go to a Y2 event since the buzzing Persian cafe by day and creative hub by night popped up on Chapel Street back in March then make Tuesday’s art club your first.
Y2 is a cosy little family-run cafe where the essence of Persian cuisine intertwines with a strong sense of community at its very core, but it’s also way more than just a place to dine – it’s a vibrant gathering spot where neighbours come together to connect, share stories, and forge lasting friendships.
So, swing by their last art club of the year, get your craft on and show some love to the incredible work the lovely lot behind Y2 Cafe are doing.
