Even in difficult times, Manchester remains as culturally vibrant as ever, with loads of events going on in the city both online and out in the real world. We’ve rounded up the best free things to do in Manchester this week, including a closing party for AIR Gallery’s current exhibition and a fundraising yard sale at Hope Mill Theatre.
AIR Gallery in Altrincham are hosting Much Too Shy, a closing party celebrating the end of a successful show featuring the four winners of last year’s AIR Open 2019. Expect the unconventional, with surreal depictions of the human form, jarring contrasts with the everyday, and a healthy dose of satirical good humour. Social distancing and safety measures will be in place, and there’ll be a pop-up bar too, making this a great evening out for a bit of local culture.
This peaceful walk aims to bring awareness to child trafficking and exploitation, both in our own communities and around the world, organised by Freedom For The Children – an apolitical non-profit organisation. The walk will begin at Piccadilly Gardens and end at MediaCityUK, where a sit down meditation will be held with an overall view towards peacefully raising awareness and encouraging judiciary systems to provide representation and resources to victims of trafficking and exploitation.
Learning a new language? Keen to get started with one? This event aims to facilitate multicultural professionals to connect and learn about each other’s native language and culture in a friendly and casual way. One of the best ways to learn a language is through conversation, so if you’re looking to brush up on your skills, or just dip your toe in and learn the basics, this could be the prefect opportunity to find someone to practice with.
Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre has been closed during lockdown, but they’ve been working hard behind the scenes to transform their space and get it in tip-top shape for reopening. They’re having a fundraising yard sale to help in their efforts and are selling on some of their furniture, costumes, props and barware – so you could pick up a piece of Hope Mill history all while supporting a great local theatre.
