A vintage thrift sale and a hip hop + R&B open mic night are among the best free things to do in Manchester this week.

One of Manchester’s most elusive and exciting pop-up cocktail bars, Into the Gathering Dusk, will be making an appearance at Cultureplex this Monday night. Expect dreamy dance tunes from their DJ and an enticing selection of their famously innovative cocktails as they take over the South Bar.

Vintage Folk Thrift Sale | Manchester SU | Thu 6 Feb | 10am - 5pm

This vintage thrift sale is free to enter all day and definitely isn’t just for students, despite taking place in the Student’s Union. Prices range from £2 – £15, and stock will be replenished throughout the day. With clothing ranging from American vintage to branded sportswear and everything in between, this is a great place to pick up some sustainable (and cheap!) new clothes.

WAVES Hip Hop and R&B Open Mic | Off the Square | Thu 6 Feb | 7.30pm - 10pm

Some of Manchester’s best emerging artists will be on show at WAVES’ latest event. There will be live hip hop and R&B as well as open mic slots hosted at Off the Square, an independent music and culture space in the heart of the Northern Quarter.

9th Birthday Party | Port Street Beer House | Thu 6 Feb | 5pm - 12am

Port Street Beer House turns 9 and to celebrate are hosting an exciting night, with a takeover at the downstairs bar from The Five Points Brewing Company, and four taps of Squawk Brewing Co classics at the upstairs bar. There will also be a celebratory collaboration beer combining Five Points’ Railway Porter and Squawk’s Corvus and a special 9th birthday Stout Cake from Siop Shop. There’ll be free slices of cake from around 6pm (while it lasts…) so make sure to stop by and celebrate this excellent Manchester beer house!
