A Cuban cha-cha dance workshop and a family fun day at Citywise are among our picks of the best free things to do in Manchester this weekend.
Internationally acclaimed artist Christopher Cook and art historian Sara Riccardi will present Cook’s latest solo exhibition. Following an in-conversation format, they will alternate between Cook presenting his work and Riccardi presenting possible art historical connections. In the case of Cook’s current solo exhibition, the past is a conscious inspiration for his work, so Riccardi’s insights are sure to provide some fascinating background on the work on display.
This programme of events and activities at the People’s History Museum explores and celebrates international LGBT+ history. There is an open archive available to peruse, as well as guided tours of the main gallery throughout the day, and some presentations in the afternoon. Find more events celebrating LGBT+ History Month here.
This Family Fun Day welcomes families with 7-12 year olds from in and around the Rusholme, Moss Side and Longsight areas. Themed around exploring emotions, there will be 7 different crafts, games and activities around the Centre to try out.

This introductory dance class is specifically for all self-identifying women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer or questioning, all or part of the time, including trans women. It’s an introductory class to teach the basics of cha-cha in a space that won’t gender the dance steps, taught by Nic, a silver medallist in Latin American and Ballroom dancing. The class is usually made up largely of people learning as individuals, rather than with a partner, so it’s the perfect place to try out something new in a casual and welcoming environment.
