On Saturday, The Portico Library presents a day of activities and talks around the theme of conservation, analysing both the book and archival conservation work done by the library and the broader project of historical and environmental conservation. The day includes drop-in sessions where you can learn about the process of book-cleaning, discussion with representatives from the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and an extended Q&A with experts in the field of conservation.
All day Saturday an Sunday, Manchester’s Chinatown will be transformed for the Moon Festival. Set to coincide with China’s annual harvest festival, expect all manner of street foods, arts and crafts and even cake-making demonstrations. You should also expect lots and lots of lanterns!

Tariff Street craft beer joint Northern Monk hosts this tap showcase on Friday and Saturday. They’ll be inviting innovative Copenhagen-based craft brewery Mikkeller, first founded in a schoolteacher’s kitchen 13 years ago, to show off their wares. This showcase includes a limited supply of bottles of the brewery’s multi-flavored spontaneously-fermented Spontan series, so get down early to avoid disappointment!
