On Wednesday evening, Electrik bar in Chorlton hosts its regular One Deck Wednesday night, this time inviting along a bona fide Manchester music legend in the shape of Stone Roses bassist Mani. The rules of One Deck Wednesday are simple: One deck, all vinyl, no mixing. Mani will be digging through his personal record collection to bring you a playlist of rare and popular track from the past 40 years.

Open to the public as well as students, University of Hong Kong professor John Carroll will take you through the tactics and promotional materials used by anti-government protesters, and also talk a little about how they reflect earlier protests under British colonial rule.
It’s hard to believe, but Manchester freshest new venue is no longer so fresh as it celebrates its first birthday on Thursday night. Fortunately, they’re packing plenty of punch into this birthday party, with celebrity guest DJ sets from the likes of Tim Burgess and A Certain Ratio, and taster appearances from established club nights Bad Fun and Me Gusta amongst numerous others. There’s also film screenings, free food and a massive drinks giveaway with 5001 drinks being offered up entirely gratis.
