Throughout half-term and over the coming fortnight, Great Northern Warehouse hosts another eclectic programme of activities and Halloween events, with seasonal dining offers, late-night parties, silver screen scares and family-friendly diversions on hand to stave off the bleak weather and shortened days.

Adult gaming bar Pong & Puck marks Halloween with a typically flamboyant bottomless brunch on Sat 31 Oct, combining 90 minutes of bottomless drinks with a whole 12-inch pizza per person and 30 minutes of drink pong. Priced at £39 per person, the package also includes complimentary shots and special Halloween cocktails, while the venue’s free darts offer continues every Sunday to Friday throughout October, with each round of drinks purchased at the bar earning an additional 30 minutes of play.

The spooky celebrations begin a night earlier at Impossible, where The Night Before Toybox takes over with a late-night party set to R&B and chart-topping hits spanning two floors, promising a fittingly debauched commencement to Halloween weekend. If you’re after live music as the soundtrack to your Friday night, South African singer-songwriter Matthew Mole brings his melodic indie-pop to Lions Den from 7.30pm, presented by Scruff of the Neck and Academy Events.

Over at ODEON Great Northern, a line-up of horror and dark fantasy brings an endless array of seasonal viewing to the big screen, from the latest Resident Evil and supernatural thriller Other Mommy to psychological mystery Verity. Practical Magic 2 reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as witchy sisters facing another family curse, while B-movie throwback Whalefall follows a scuba diver trapped inside an enormous sperm whale with just an hour to escape. See the full schedule HERE.

For a merciful taste of Mediterranean sunshine with a sumptuous autumnal twist, Evuna‘s October specials include roasted pumpkin stuffed with mushrooms, chestnuts and aged Manchego cheese, a warming seafood stew with squid ink and rosé wine, and breaded pork loin filled with chorizo and Los Cameros cheese. The acclaimed tapas hotspot is also celebrating Rioja Wine Month with a six-bottle case reduced to £86.50, making it a perfect time to stock up on Spanish wine for the colder evenings ahead – or no reason at all.

Italiana Fifty Five has its own weekday offers for those looking to keep half-term dining affordable, with freshly made pasta available for £10 every Tuesday and a 120-day-aged Aberdeen Black Angus steak served with fries and café de Paris butter for £15 on Wednesdays.

Buttercup Manchester

For a sweet-toothed reprieve from the blustery streets, recently opened pudding bar Buttercup serves signature banana puddings and indulgent tiramisu, with every dessert made in-house and scooped fresh to order. A choice of toppings and sauces lets visitors customise their puddings, with accompaniments including changing seasonal specials, coffee and matcha.

Families looking for an afternoon pitstop can head to Little Northerners, a free indoor play space designed with preschoolers in mind. Open daily from 9am to 4pm, the unmanned area gives younger visitors room to play and explore while parents can catch their breath nearby.

The festive programme continues into November with Spirit of Comedy at Lions Den on Wed 4 Nov, when a fresh line-up of aspiring acts competes for a £5,000 cash prize and the title of Britain’s next comedy legend. Hosted by Lions Den and presented by Ricky Gervais’ Dutch Barn Vodka, the event promises an evening of memorable live entertainment and audience participation, with every ticket holder receiving a complimentary ready-to-drink cocktail and further prizes up for grabs.
