Manchester International Festival’s free online programme continues this Friday at 8pm with an airing of Re:Creating Europe, a star-studded performance captured during 2019’s event and helmed by theatre director Ivo van Hove. Introduced with a bespoke video piece recorded specifically for this streamed session by author and poet Michael Morpurgo, this story weaves together a selection of words from artists, creatives and political thinkers which explore the essence of Europe and features a cast that boasts Christopher Eccleston, Lemn Sissay and Juliet Stevenson.
In addition, MIF has also put together a series of free streams, discussions and archive recordings to be enjoyed online during lockdown. Every week, you can catch the following…
Wednesdays 7:30pm – Festival In My House.. And Yours
Inspired by the event’s long-running ‘Festival In My House’ series – Manchester artists are invited to create and present their own micro-international festival in their homes.
Thursdays 12:30pm – MIF Encounters
Sadly not in the flesh but festival artists are brought into our homes via digital talks and archive discussions. Past talks have included Neneh Cherry.
Fridays 7:30pm – MIF Rewind
Turning back the clock, MIF will be streaming events from previous festivals – in full and for free for you to enjoy for a whole 24 hours. Concerts recently streamed have included New Order’s collaboration with artist Liam Gillick from MIF17.
All of these features are free to access through the MIF official Youtube Channel. Events are usually announced on Tuesdays so keep your eyes peeled on their socials to see who’s up next. Keep up to date by following MIF’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels.
