Character comedy from Frankie Munroe, musical sketch from Shelf and up and comping stand-up courtesy of Chelsea Birkby this week.

Frankie Munroe at The Laughienda | Mon 29 Apr | 7.30pm | FREE

There’s a lot of buzz around Joe Kent-Walters comic creation who snapped up the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award late last year. This year Frankie Munroe will be taking his show to the Edinburgh Fringe but before that, he’ll be headlining The Laughienda on a Monday night to kickstart your week with some absurd club stylings of this bizarre and brilliant character comic.

Lions Den, 253 Deansgate, Mews, Manchester M3 4EN
Chelsea Birkby at XS Malarkey | Tue 30 Apr | 7.30pm | £6/3

Another rising star is Chelsea Birkby who will be headlining XS Malarkey for the first time this Tuesday evening at 53Two. After rip-roaring sets of support for the likes of Fern Brady and Helen Bauer as well as her own award-winning, critically-acclaimed Edinburgh show No More Mr Nice Chelsea, this is a great chance to see a future star in the intimate surrounds of XS. She’ll be following in the footsteps of the greats in doing so.

53Two, Arch 19 Watson Street, Manchester M3 4LP
Shelf at The Lowry | Sun 5 May | 2.30pm & 8pm | £12-14

To round out the week why not take a trip to The Lowry for a comedy double bill from a double act like no other. Rachel and Ruby of Shelf will be hosting two shows, their award-winning kid-friendly instalment at 2.30pm elaborately titled The Kids’ Show, followed by their critically acclaimed sophomore, more adult show Teenage Men at 8pm. Something for everyone.
