Jenny Tian, Rachel Fairburn and more are at The Frog on Thursday, Lorna Rose Treen is at XS Malarkey and there’s more in a pretty great week to start the year of comedy in Manchester.

Lorna Rose Treen at XS Malarkey | Tue 7 Jan | 7.30pm | £3/6

XS Malarkey is kicking off 2025 with a banger as it welcomes award-winning character comic Lorna Rose Treen to 53Two this Tuesday. After a cracking debut show Skin Pigeon back in 2023, Treen had another successful year just gone with her debut radio show Time of the Week on BBC Radio 4 that’s just been commissioned for a second series. She will be joined by Dee Allum, Jake Farrell, Richard McEvoy and of course Toby Hadoke for a stellar night of comedy.

Jenny Tian at The Frog & Bucket | Thu 9 Jan | 8pm | £12/16

Although it’s very early days in January of 2025 we may have a shout for lineup of the year this Thursday night at The Frog & Bucket. Not only have they got local favourites Rachel Fairburn, Dan Tiernan and Brennan Reece (the trio of whom have just sold out Manchester dates for their respective tours), but there’s also Taskmaster Australia star Jenny Tian thrown into the mix for good measure. Start your weekend early with the best lineup in the country.

The Glitter Project Open Mic Show at The Frog | Sun 12 Jan | 3pm | £3

For something a little different on a Sunday afternoon why not give this new initiative from Funny Women and The Glitter Project a try. Tegan Marlow of Femmes of Thems will be hosting a showcase event offering female and non-binary performers vital stage time, whether it’s their first time on stage or they are a more established act looking for ‘A Safe Place’ to try out new material.
