An unexpectedly warm Bank Holiday has made it feel like Summer isn’t quite yet ready to come to an end, and I’m sure that’s what Roofff will be banking on when it opens it’s rooftop bar next year. A bit earlier than that and there’s a new bar from Manchester Gin opening next month, as well as a new cider festival for Stretford. If you’re looking at expanding your wine knowledge, we’ve got a couple of tastings for you to sink your teeth into, all, hopefully, whilst the sun still shines.

First Street New Rooftop Bar

The car park on First Street is set for more than just vehicles in the coming months. Plans have been unveiled for a huge rooftop bar to be placed on top of the huge Q-Park that stands opposite HOME that will give fully 360 degree views of Manchester’s ever growing skyline. With the simply titled Roofff, Buzz Ventures, a property development company, hope to accommodate 400 diners and 250 open-air drinkers on the high rise bar. The 11,000 square foot space will house rotating food traders and an array of drinks when it opens (planning pending) by the end of next year. Opening TBC.

New Bar From Manchester Gin

We’ve reported on Manchester Gin’s plans to head in to the city centre before, and now plans are firmer and with an official launch date too. Three Little Words, the cocktail bar and restaurant arm of their venture will open on Sep 15 on Watson Street, right next door to their brand new distillery. Unsurprisingly, gin, and the gin making process will be central to the venture as guests can see the process in action as well as taking tours of the distillery and tucking in to some food and cocktails (not just gin based). The food will be inspired by the botanicals that make up gin, and all housed in grade 2 listed archway.

Stretford Cider Festival

If you like your booze to be fruity, you’re in for a treat as Stretford Precinct is hosting the first ever Stretford Cider Festival. Sun 15 Sep will see 6 hours celebrating the apple based tipple and will feature local ciders, as well as street food vendors, special sausages from Frost’s, and a cheese stand. Don’t worry if you’ve got children to look after as there is plenty for them to do whilst you try a few adult drinks. Organised by Cider Buzz Mcr who are hoping to promote the great and good of local cider, expect some unusual and high class drinks.

Southern European Wine Tasting

Another of Manchester’s local wine traders, Carringtons, is hosting their own wine tasting night this week but you’ll have to be on the ball to get in. Tonight (27 Aug) from 7pm sees them heading to the sunny climate of Southern Europe to showcase the lesser known wines from the region as they take you through a selection of various wines from wine producing regions on the bottom end of Europe. The £15 ticket cost is refundable against any 6 mixed wine cases.
