Next week sees the people’s will being enacted as the People’s Choice Wine Awards crowns their favourite wines of the year. The Comedy Store hosts the popular wine awards, chosen by the wine buying public and wine experts, on Monday 3 February. If you want to try some of the country’s favourite wines £65 will gain you entry the event as well as the opportunity to try every wine up for an award alongside locally sourced food.

Beatnikz Launch New Bar Lattsam in Spring Gardens

After a few years of success for Beermoth Cafe, Spring Gardens is set to welcome another craft beer bar as Beatnikz joins the area between King Street and Market Street. Lattsam will be a different proposition to the brewery’s Northern Quarter location, as it bring a Scandinavian cafe feel with artisan coffee and breakfast being served from 8am, followed by lunches. This being a brewery’s bar, there is a wide beer selection with ten taps featuring Beatnikz’ own beers as well as guest pours. The cafe aims to be open on 55 Spring Gardens in time for spring. The Red Bank based gang are a busy sort and before their cafe opens, they have teamed up with Alvarium to create a special beer pairing for their six course vegan tasting menu on February 4th. Doner Haus Sets Feb 10 Launch at The Corn Exchange

Kebabs have been having a bit of a moment as restaurants like Bab NQ move them away from their reputation as a British late night staple and more towards a high quality meal for normal times of the day. The latest import to try their hand at the sit down kebab is Doner Haus from Glasgow which opens its doors next month on Monday 10 February. The Corn Exchange will welcome the Scottish outpost that aims to have perfected and recreated the best of Berlin’s kebab scene. Also expect their take on other German staples including currywurst.

Restaurant Group Tre Ciccio Enter Administration

Restaurant group Tre Ciccio has hit financial troubles with the three restaurant chain appointing administrators to help the beleaguered Italian restaurants. With three sites in Altrincham, Bramhall and Ramsbottom there is hope for a quick sale and to keep all three restaurants running for the foreseeable future.

If one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to buff up on your wine knowledge, or if you just want to be able to talk more about the wine you drink, then Reserve Wines have you covered. On the Thursday 30 January, the Didsbury based wine purveyors will be hosting a ‘Back to Basics’ wine tasting where they teach you how to assess wine by sight, smell, and taste. There’s more wine tasting news for budding somelliers, as Levenshulme’s Isca is hosting an orange wine tasting on Friday 31 January. Created by leaving the grape skins and seeds in contact with the juice, orange wine has been gaining in popularity and drinkers can try a selection of four varieties from small and organic produces. For £35 attendees get the wine samples as well as paired snacks.

Free Vegan Breakfast at Vertigo

If you’re getting on the Veganuary wagon and don’t want to stop as soon as February rolls around then Vertigo are here to help. To celebrate the launch of their new menu, the plant based eatery is offering the first fifty people through its doors a free breakfast this Saturday 01 February. Wolf at The Door Relaunch

After a quick close, spruce up and a bit of a menu change, Wolf at The Door is set to reopen this Friday 31 January as it unveils its recent makeover. The recently renamed Wilderness bar closed at the start of the month to get ready for the year ahead and they’re now ready to show it off with a big party. Friday will see the opportunity to get hold of free cocktails, try the new food offering and listen to some tunes from DJs including Konny Kon. Even if you miss out on a free drink, all the new cocktails are just £5 throughout the evening.
