Manchester has plenty to offer those eating out on a budget — from £2 baos and bargain slices to £8 lunches from one of the city’s best fried chicken spots.

South African bar and kitchen Chakalaka promise ‘a true taste of the Cape’, and every Wednesday you can grab half price off your main dish. Along with that, every Tuesday you can grab a traditional Boerewors roll for £2.
Each of Society’s fantastic street food traders offer a £10 lunch option from Mon-Thu and every Sunday between 12pm-3pm. Whether’s it’s a mouthwatering stack from Slap & Pickle burgers or hearty bibimbap from Yoki Social, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
The spectacular Peter Street Kitchen, set within the historic Free Trade Hall, boasts a unique blend of Japanese and Mexican cuisine. At £23 for two courses, the special set menu offers high-end dining at serious value, with the option to up that to three dishes for £28.
Getting anything for a couple of quid feels like an achievement in itself, when that thing is one of Wolf at the Door’s Chippy Tea baos, it’s even better. Other baos, like the Fried Spam and Kimchi and Bhan Mi Tofu, can also be picked up for £2.50.
Weekdays ’till 5.30pm mean three small plates for £15 at Didsbury’s Volta. A menu inspired by international travels, diners can choose from mouthwatering favourites like Whipped feta & hazelnuts, Berbere spiced black lentils and Queenie scallops.
From Mon-Fri, 12pm-4pm, Bundo’s Express Lunch lets guests pick two dishes from a collection of their biggest and best, including the Mung Chatpata, Okra Fries, Bundo Chaat and Tarka Dhal.
Available at Crazy Pedro’s Bridge Street, the £6 lunch deal incudes 2 pizza slices and a soft drink. Grab a beer for an extra £1. Then, between 5pm-9pm, slices are on offer for £2.50, full pizzas for £12 and 2-for-£12 cocktails.
Pick from one of four lunch dishes and pair it with a soda for an insanely low £8 at Yard & Coop. Available Mon – Thu, 12pm-4pm, you can upgrade your drink to a pint for £3.
A kebab for lunch? An absolute no-brainer when it comes courtesy of the fine folks at Bab. Grab one of their refined takes on the late-night delicacy for £10. Upgrade to Greek fries for an extra £2. Available Sun – Fri, 12pm – 3pm.
At just 25p per wing, you can essentially order a bucket-full at Bunny Jackson’s and still come home with change from a tenner. If you really wanted to push the boat out, there’s even a more premium 50p wing menu, just in case you fancied treating yourself.
10 Tib Lane is undoubtedly one of Manchester’s most gorgeous dining rooms, a sentiment only amplified by the fact that you can tuck into £1 oysters Tue – Sun between 4pm – 6pm.
Unequivocally one of the city’s greatest drinking establishments, and famously housing Manchester’s best jukebox, Corbieres will even throw in a free pizza when you spend just a fiver every Tue – Fri between 4pm-8pm.
Hyatt Manchester’s fantastic in-house restaurant, The Laureate, offers buy-one-get-one-free pizzas every Monday between 5pm – 11pm, meaning you can grab two full pies for as little as £13. Along with that, available daily between 3pm – 5pm, guests can get two cocktails for a tenner at the hotel’s Graduate Bar.
Pull up a chair between 12pm – 4pm, Mon – Sat, and you can get two courses for £21 from the TNQ lunch Menu. The main menu is made up largely of crowd-pleasing favourites, including roast chicken, herb-crusted cod fillet and baked wild mushroom gnocchi, so it’s always a solid choice for big groups.
Kala’s ever-changing Bistro Menu is always a winner for anyone after a premium but budget-friendly meal out. At two courses for just £17, or three for £20, there aren’t many places in town where you’ll find such high-quality cooking at this kind of price point. Available Mon – Thu, 12pm – 6.30pm, and Frday 12pm – 4pm.
Serving from Mon – Fri, 12pm – 4pm, you can build a pretty substantial spread by combining a mezze and two small plates of your choice at lauded Middle Eastern spot, Maray.
A restaurant that certainly needs no introduction, steak and grill experts Hawksmoor will give you one of the best lunches, or early dinners, in the city for less than £30. Offered Mon – Fri until 6.30pm, mains include Rump Steak & Chips and Roasted Hake, with starters covering Smoked Mackerel Salad and Potted Beef & Bacon with Yorkshires.
