One of the most important things to remember during lockdown is the independent businesses who are seriously missing out while their premises are closed. In order to help support these businesses – and to let you know the best ways to support them – we’re highlighting some of Manchester’s local makers and stores who are still selling online at the moment. This week, we’ve rounded up five traders usually based in Affleck’s Palace who you can buy from online during lockdown to help them stay afloat.

My Cat Likes Cheese

My Cat Likes Cheese is a design brand featuring the distinctive illustrations of Claire, the owner. Designs range from cute and quirky doodles to pop culture references and can be found on greeting cards, art prints, magnets and more – Claire even takes commissions for works in her style. Usually up on the third floor in Afflecks, she’s still selling on Etsy at the moment.

S.W.A.L.K Creative

S.W.A.L.K Creative showcases talented local artists, giving them a platform to sell their artwork to a wider audience. It’s a great place to pick up some incredible work from up-and-comers in the art world at really affordable prices – they have an Etsy store so you can continue to support their work even during lockdown.

Trouser Project

Trouser Project is classic Afflecks – a very niche but ultra cool idea that you can’t imagine happening anywhere but Manchester. Megan Lewis, a Manchester artist, paints on secondhand trousers to give them new life. She’s still selling on her website, so if you’re looking for an absolutely unique addition to your wardrobe, make sure to check it out – she takes commissions, too!

Sour Cherry

Originally from Sheffield, Sour Cherry sell handmade jewellery and accessories – they bring their vivid and original designs to perspex jewellery, pins, patches and more. Their online shop features loads of their products, including some very cool earrings and necklaces… it’s the perfect place to pick out some eye-catching accessories for your next Zoom call.

NQ Gallery

NQ Gallery have some of the coolest Manchester-themed artwork around. Featuring work from the city’s finest creatives including Phoenix Phusion, Sue Scott and more, you can visit their website for greeting cards, cushions and wall art, all of which pays tribute to this incomparable city.
