Easter is on the horizon and in Manchester, there’s no shortage of places to find the tastiest chocolate for the perfect Easter Eggs. With this in mind, we’ve rounded up some of the best chocolate spots the city has to offer, from artisan stores, to quirky dessert parlours. Many offer click-and-collect and online delivery – so be sure to check their sites before purchasing.
Cocoa Cabana opened in West Didsbury in 2012 before launching a second store in Ancoats in early 2019. The venue offers handmade chocolates and hot drinks in the shop (when we’re not in lockdown), as well as wedding cakes and dessert tables for big events. They specialise in experimental chocolate shards and slabs (although there’s plenty of traditional flavours too), so this is the perfect place to pick up a few unique gifts – like a chocolate skull. As if that wasn’t enough, they also serve up a selection of chocolate-infused cocktails. Don’t forget to treat yourself, too – make sure to test their claim of offering the best brownies you’ll ever taste. Follow the link below to buy some treats direct from their website.

Dormouse Chocolates offer both their own chocolate and international craft chocolate in their friendly Deansgate store. They offer private tastings in an informal setting and for truly adventurous chocolate lovers, they have a Bean to Door club, giving a subscription to their limited edition micro-batch bars made with experimental flavours and techniques. Visit their online store and you’ll find a range of gift options – including individual bars with flavours like Bread and Butter Milk and even solid chocolate hearts.

Located in the Northern Quarter, Black Milk is ostensibly a cereal café but in reality it’s so much more. When we’re not in lockdown, you can find them serving the most indulgent freakshakes (huge milkshakes loaded with sauce, cream and ‘toppings’ such as an entire slice of cake), however with Valentine’s Day on the way, they’ve launched a range of gifts and hampers which you can order by visiting their website. From Kinderella scented candles and chocolate bar gift boxes, to truffle boxes and even a milkshake kit boasting a blender – you’re bound to find the perfect gift here.

One of Manchester’s newest indie chocolatiers, Cocoa and Bloom made waves via appearances at Grub’s lockdown take-away and delivery service throughout early 2021. Their aim is simple: to create chocolates that are free from artificial preservatives and unnecessary extras that aren’t good for us and to present their treats in eco-friendly, sustainable packaging. They excel at both of these things – whilst managing to make their chocs vibrantly coloured and packed with artistic flair. All in all, they’re the perfect option for the arty chocolate lover in your life.

The Cocoa Tree in Chorlton is both a chocolate shop and a café, making it the perfect place to find a hand-crafted Easter Egg. All of their chocolates are made on the premises and they use the finest ingredients from sustainable and ethical sources. Don’t miss the special house hot chocolate served in the café (when lockdown is over, of course), available in flavours ranging from classic chocolate orange, to the slightly more outlandish rose chocolate, for the more adventurous sweet tooth. They also offer a range of Valentine’s hampers and chocolate gift sets. Visit their site to find out more.
