February 16 marks the arrival of Shrove Tuesday – but it’s a Shrove Tuesday like no other. With everyone stuck indoors, folks will be forced to whip up their own batter-based beauts. However if you can’t abide the hassle – or if you don’t have the necessary ingredients to hand – these Manchester cafes and take-aways can sort you out with some deliciously over-the-top dishes to help you mark the day in style. As always, be sure to check each venue’s website and socials before you order to ensure they’re still operating in these ever-changing times.
If you’re after something a little lighter, Hale’s artisan brasserie Juniper can hook you up with a plate of fluffy American pancakes in no time at all. Available for local delivery via Deliveroo, £7.50 will get you your very own stack, topped with light and creamy butter and maple syrup. Additional toppings like mixed berries, raspberry coulis and cream quenelle, caramelised banana, honey and whipped cream, and even bacon are available for an additional £1.50 per item. What are you waiting for? Time to tuck in.

Oxford Road’s Ice Stone Gelato serves up crepe craziness all year round – but when Shrove Tuesday rolls around, their thin, freshly-made delights are especially hard to ignore. Of course, there’s the basic French crepe served with lemon and sugar (£5.50) – but if you’re looking to go the whole hog, perhaps you’d prefer the Royal Crepe (£7.30) which sees your crepe covered in Nutella, Ferrero Rocher pieces, and dark blossom and caramel sauce. White chocolate (£6.90), maple syrup, chocolate and cream (£6.60), and banoffee options are also available – with additional toppings on-hand to help scratch any sugary itch you may have.

Northern Quarter favourite Ezra & Gil is getting in on the pancake action too, with takeaway options available all throughout the day, alongside home delivery via Deliveroo. These lot are keeping it simple with just two topping selections to choose from. Will you go for a simple lemon and blueberry or will you decided to push the boat out and indulge in Nutella, Kinder Bueno and Strawberry? Why not both?

We know, we know… these aren’t technically pancakes, they’re just pancake flavoured – but we live in strange times where anything goes, so we might as well go with it. Gooey Co, home to Manchester’s must-try cookies and donuts, are celebrating Pancake Day the only way they know how: by putting together a super special blueberry pancake cookie, made with buttermilk and milk chocolate dough, a blueberry centre, drizzled with sticky maple syrup and topped with a white chocolate butter slab. Tempted? Numbers are limited – so place your order while you can.

The Northern Quarter’s quintessential greasy spoon cafe, The Koffee Pot, is helping us keep the Pancake Day vibes going strong into the weekend with their DIY pancake kits. Available to buy via their website for local delivery across Manchester, these packages contain everything you need for a memorable breakfast treat. The Lockdown DIY Pancake Kit (£25) includes 4 sausage patties, 4 bacon rashers, 4 potato rostis and 4 free range eggs, alongside enough batter to whip up 12 fluffy pancakes. They’ve even thrown in maple syrup, icing sugar, butter and a carton of orange juice to help you start your day right!
