Just the thought of keeping the kids entertained for an entire week can be daunting for parents. But don’t worry, we’ve lined up some of the best free events and activities happening in and around Manchester this February half term – so whatever your child is in to, you will find something to keep their creative juices flowing.

February Half Term Fun | The Science and Industry Museum | 15 - 23 Feb

If your little one is into all things transport, science or construction themed, these fun-filled experience days at the museum will definitely have them feeling inspired. They will be able to learn all about the three teams that changed the way we travel in an interactive science show, build their own model mode of transport or grab a construction pack as they make their way around their museum like a mini-builder or mechanic. If you and your little ones still want to experience something amazing, you could purchase tickets for their blazing special exhibition, The Sun, which runs until the end of March.

Space Crafts | Jodrell Bank | 15 - 23 Feb

Whether your little one is a budding astronaut or they just have a love for all things space, this arts and crafts activity will keep them entertained for hours. Go along to Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre this half term and let your child’s imagination run wild, they will be able to draw and build anything space related but don’t worry, there will be something for all the family to enjoy during these free drop-in sessions.

Meet the Experts | Jodrell Bank | 17 - 21 Feb

If you’re taking your aspiring astronaut along to the arts and crafts session, why not also take them to meet one of Jodrell Bank’s resident science and industry experts. These talks will take place Monday – Friday between 1pm and 2pm. You and your little one will learn all about the work they do at Jodrell Bank and at the end of the talk, you will have the opportunity to ask any burning questions.

Get Active Outdoors | Lyme Park | 17 - 21 Feb

Help your kids keep active this half term with Lyme Park’s wide variety of sporting activities. There’s something for everyone, even the adults. From games to skill-based sporty fun, there’s no doubt there will be a smile spread across your little one’s face as their competitiveness and ambition is unleashed.

Holiday Fun | Gallery Oldham

Gallery Oldham are offering free arts and crafts to those aged between 4 and 10 during the February half term. Activities will include drawing, making things and face painting, though a £2 fee per child is required if they should want their faces transforming into an animal, a bug or anything else. These activity sessions will run between 1pm until 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Magnificent Minibeasts | The Manchester Museum | 18 & 20 Feb

If your little one is a lover of inspiring insects, terrifying spiders and captivating creepy crawlies, this activity will be perfect for them. They will not only be entertained but their creativity and imagination will be fully loaded and they could even use this activity as last-minute inspiration for their entry into the museum’s creepy crawly chronicles short story competition.

Making Origami Cats | Elizabeth Gaskell's House | 19 Feb

Is your child a lover of animals? Specifically cats? Are they a reader of Elizabeth Gaskell’s stories? If so, then this creative workshop will be the perfect activity for them. Here, your kids will learn how to make simple origami cats to take home. Once they’re done, you can ten enjoy the cat-themed fun family trail around the house, where you will meet Cranford the cat. This workshop will be running on Wednesday 19 February only between 1pm and 3pm. It is completely free so there is no need to book.
