Looking for ways to kick back and unwind? We’ve picked out five of the best luxury spas all within a stone’s throw of Manchester that make for the perfect spring escape.
A pioneer of sustainability in the industry, this multi-award-winning destination aims to take care of its guests and the environment. This expertly restored Edwardian textile mill has a wide range of treatments available in 20 bespoke rooms. Standouts include body scrubs, wraps, and a private mud chamber. From £159pp, you can enjoy an overnight break, which includes meals and a ‘heat and ice experience’. The luxury apartments feature all mod cons, and many have a balcony offering panoramic views of the surrounding Pennines.

Just south of Lake Windemere is this charming 17th century building which overlooks rolling hills and the River Leven. The venue’s ‘Pamper Hamper’ break (£388) is for two people for two nights. It includes a bottle of prosecco on arrival and one spa treatment each. Treatments include eye lifting/firming and Swedish massage. You will also have full use of the leisure facilities – including the indoor pool, gym, steam room, and sauna. And if that’s not enough, you’ll also receive a unique gift to take home.

The Buxton area has a 2000-year history as a spa destination. This magnificent hotel was built in the Georgian Era, so the nobility could ‘take the waters’ at the local mineral spring. After a major refurbishment lasting several years, the hotel reopened in late 2020 under the Ensana brand. Day packages start at £99 and include full use of the facilities, lunch, and your choice of treatment. Unsurprisingly, many of the treatments are centred around water, and include CO2 infusion mineral baths and underwater jet massages.

From £250, you can enjoy a ‘Just Relax Visit’, which includes all the things you’d expect from a luxury break. You can submerge yourself in the relaxation pool, recover with a ‘thermal experience’, and visit the exclusive deli – and for an extra £150, you can add two luxury therapies. The Spa even has its own bespoke product range – Pure Alchemy – which uses natural ingredients from the Lake District.

Set within 270 acres of landscaped gardens, this listed building has a brand new £10 million Champneys Spa. It’s the closest on this list to Manchester, so you could pop down for a single treatment, such as a tension-melting massage or a radiance-boosting facial. There’s also alternative medicine, including hypnotherapy, reflexology, and reiki. Or from £79, you could have a full spa day, which includes a complimentary lunch. The estate’s other leisure amenities include an 18-hole championship golf course and a FIFA accredited football pitch.
