Pizza is possibly the most loved, go-to cuisine – especially in a city like Manchester. Food after work? Pizza. One too many drinks? Pizza. Been trawling the streets all day in the rain? Pizza! Although we can only dream of being in the heart of Italy where the maestros work, our consolation is really very good. Some of the best, most authentic pizzas around are in Manchester and all offering different experiences and some with several branches in the city. Here’s a rundown of some of the best pizza in Manchester City Centre and our favourite places to grab a slice, whatever the occasion.
Mackie Mayor has made its name as a staple street food market with a modern, clean edge. One of those offering delights in the Northern Quarter food hall is Honest Crust, which prides itself on being authentic and scrupulously sourcing ingredients to decorate their signature sourdough base. Customer reviews don’t lie, overwhelmingly praising Honest Crust for their light crusts and obvious dedication to making pizza, along with a myriad vegan and vegetarian options which is all the more appealing for those wanting to cut down. Honest Crust can also be found in Mackie Mayor’s big sister establishment, Altrincham Market.
HOME is renowned for its contribution to, and exhibition of, the arts and culture around Manchester and beyond, namely film and theatre, but its restaurant also serves great pizza. The usual classic pizzas are on offer here, but HOME also have their own house pizzas including Greek Lamb, Memphis BBQ and Crab, King Prawn & Asparagus just to name a few! All for under £15 and most with vegetarian and vegan variations, why not opt to make a day of it the next time you visit HOME, sampling the pizza after dropping in to see the latest Tarantino?
The self proclaimed party animals at Crazy Pedro’s not only offer an equally crazy soundtrack and gigantic frozen cocktails (namely the margaritas) but a litany of developed pizzas curated by the team. If the comical pizza names such as ‘The Godfather Pt.1’ and ‘Giuseppe’s Not Sloppy, He’s Vegan’ don’t entice you, how about the idea of nachos and being able to buy just a slice or the whole pizza? Chuck in a selection of great Happy Hour deals that sees 2-for-1 cocktails, £2 slices and £10 pizzas between 5pm – 9pm Sunday to Friday and it’s no wonder everyone’s raving about Pedro.
YES is on its way up, establishing itself primarily as a music venue and bar/club, however its open style kitchen provides eats for those who fancy it and these pizzas by the slice are hard to beat. Every slice coming in at under £4, YES’s Pepperoni Playboy team have been drafted in to create pizzas from its small but perfectly formed menu, including Psycho Kaler, a kale and mushroom extravaganza, and Aubergine Genie, a vegan masterpiece with all the best bits. Pizza slices are the perfect accompaniment to a cheeky drink at Manchester’s most prominent up and coming venue, and are sure to keep you coming back for more.
CIAOOO is a family run pizzeria slightly off the beaten city centre track. The petite, open plan nature of the restaurant retains this family feel and is the perfect place to relax after a long day and enjoy possibly the most authentic, well priced pizza in Manchester. In a traditional Italian style menu this pizzeria offers mostly classic pizzas, with a few house additions thrown in, ranging from vegetarian options to pretty much the opposite. The drinks menu is equally as traditional, however the Italian lager on draft at CIAOOO shows the family knows what pairs well with their pizza, and there’s nothing better than a true Italian slice and a beer (or soft drink of your choice) to leave you full and satisfied.

Rudy’s is probably the most talked about pizzeria amongst Mancunians, and with its extensive menu and raw industrial interiors, it’s not difficult to see why. The menu offers not only the traditional Margheritas and Tonnos, but creative additions such as the Ancozzese with chilli flakes and other surprises. Many of the pizzas are vegetarian, or can be altered that way, and an attempt has been made at vegan offerings which seems to be improving. In addition to its delicious Neapolitan-style pizza dough, Rudy’s also offers starters and desserts – making it a must-try experience for any Mancunian and a delight for those visiting.
