With Pancake Day just around the corner, we’ve gathered together some of the best places in and around Manchester that’ll be serving up stack after delicious stack.
Among Hampton & Vois’ impressive dessert offerings is a Biscoff Stack—if that isn’t enough to hook you in, then we’re not sure what will. Their coffee is up there with some of the city’s best, too.
Lazy Sundae is the perfect spot if you’re after something a little different. Their soufflé-style pancakes have become one of their menu highlights since opening a couple of years back. A popular dish in Japan, soufflé pancakes are a light and fluffy variation of the traditional treats, and come stacked with all kinds of delights like biscoff and brown sugar brulée.
Want something a bit more savoury? Something that you can pass for breakfast? Manchester’s favourite hangover spot, The Koffee Pot, will be slinging its all-American pancakes piled high with sausage, hash brown, smokey bacon, fried egg and maple syrup.
Moose Coffee has built itself around great American breakfast culture, so it’s probably safe to assume the team know what they’re doing in that department, and the team’s homemade buttermilk pancakes are legendary.
If you like your dining setting with a little more eccentricity, Canal Street’s Richmond Tea Rooms’ Wonderland-inspired interior ticks all the boxes, serving up both sweet and savoury options, along with a vegan-friendly pancakes too.
Haute Dolci is known for frankly ridiculous pancake creations all year round, so naturally Shrove Tuesday is a big deal down there. Whether you opt for the classic lemon and sugar combination, or push the boat out with the white chocolate, raspberries and coconut gelato—there’s plenty to get stuck into.
At Fluffy Fluffy, each pancake is hand-made to order with fresh ingredients. Egg whites are whipped to soft peaks giving that airy quality for which the brand has become famous. The pancakes are then slowly cooked at low temperature for the signature round cloud-like pancakes, with more than 15 flavours to choose from.
Pho’s classic Vietnamese pancakes (banh xeo), usually reserved for the evening, will be available all day for one day only. Savoury, crispy and delicious, the pancakes are made with a thin layer of rice flour, water and turmeric, before being fried and filled with either tofu, chicken or prawns. They’re also suitable for the vegans and the gluten-free amongst us.
Moxy is inviting guests to indulge in free pancakes with any drink purchased on Pancake Day. From a coffee to a cocktail, customers can purchase any drink to redeem up to 3 free pancakes per person, which they’ll be able to pimp up themselves at Moxy’s pancake topping station.
Over at the Great Northern, Impossible will be celebrating the day with a £15 pancake and prosecco offer. If you’re really looking to make an afternoon of it, upgrade to bottomless prosecco and pancakes for £22.
