This Christmas season, The Stoller Hall hosts an eclectic, irresistibly festive programme of exclusive live concerts, gathering an assemblage of international talent to perform new and traditional works spanning roots, carols, family-friendly fairytales and rollicking swing numbers.

On Thu 5 Dec, five luminaries of the British roots scene bring their storied pre-Christmas knees-up to The Stoller Hall, featuring fresh, inventive arrangements and seasonal classics from both sides of the Atlantic.

Brimming with bold, breathtaking harmonies and peerless musical virtuosity, A Winter Union presents ‘a perfect seasonal musical present’ (Laurel Canyon Music) brimming with unique festive euphoria.

Originally formed in 2015 for a one-off live concert, the multi-talented quintet canter through their spellbinding repertoire which has delighted audiences at The Great British Folk Festival, Cecil Sharp House and beyond.

Carols from Kantos | Sat 7 Dec | 7.30pm | £20.50

As The Stoller Hall’s festive season enters full swing, trailblazing vocal ensemble Kantos takes the stage with a night of joyous choral carols, transporting the audience on a wintry voyage through the timeless wonder of iconic Christmas music.

Alongside a selection of traditional carols, the unmissable programme features Rutter’s Donkey Carol, Head’s The Little Road to Bethlehem and even Joni Mitchell’s River, alongside a mesmerising rendition of the 2024 Kantos Carol Competition Winner, chosen by decorated choral composer Cecilia McDowell.

Swing Into Christmas with The Down for the Count Orchestra | Sun 15 Dec | 2.30pm, 7.30pm | £38.50

Returning to Manchester with a pair of enchanting shows on Sun 15 Dec, The Down for the Count Orchestra stages ‘a Christmas celebration like no other’ with a vibrant, soaring recreation of iconic pieces from the golden age of swing.

Backed by the lush, sweeping sounds of a thirty-piece orchestra, the renowned vocalists breathe new life into Capitol Records favourites like I’ve Got You Under My Skin, New York New York, S’Wonderful and more, alongside original jazz arrangements and festive standards devised by principal conductor Mike Paul-Smith and Simon Joyner.

Winter Tales with Orchestra: The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty | Thu 19 Dec | 7.30pm | £27.50-£42.50

On Thu 19 Dec, the thrillingly versatile Mystery Ensemble brings wondrous new dimensions to the inimitable festive works of Tchaikovsky with an eagerly anticipated concert guaranteed to delight the whole family.

Billed as an entrancing celebration of unbridled Christmas spirit, the one-off performance transforms The Stoller Hall into a snowscape of soulful, atmospheric wonder, as the pioneering ensemble deliver a programme of faithful yet distinctive interpretations of legendary melodies from The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.

Opera North: Cinderella | Sat 21 Dec | 11.30am, 2pm | £8

Led by a stellar cast of professional singers and musicians, Opera North take to the stage on the final Saturday before Christmas with a relaxed, interactive family-friendly performance of Cinderella, showcasing the boundless magic of opera, storytelling and music.

Singing and dancing are heavily encouraged as the world-renowned opera company bring a fantastical new twist to the beloved seasonal fairytale.
