This month’s top 5 events at Cultureplex round-up has an especially ethical focus, with picks including a fashion swap that makes sustainable choices sexy, an edible celebration of International Women’s Day and a workshop exploring colonial queerness. For more hot, conscionable takes – and if you’re not entirely sure what colonial queerness really means – read on…

In Stories: International Women’s Day | Tue 3 Mar | 6.30pm - 11pm | £40

Part dinner party, part talk show, In Stories is a monthly dinner series hosted by female collective Ladies of Restaurants (L.O.R.). Enjoy a three course dinner, wine and a welcome cocktail alongside talks from five leading women in Manchester’s restaurant industry at this special, International Women’s Day edition.

DIY Martini | Mon 9 Mar | 6.30pm -8pm | £20

Bottle caps, a saucepan, a mug and a spoon – these, it seems, are all you need to mix a killer Martini… given the right skills. Joe and Daniel Schofield have combined their extensive training and resourceful natures to deliver this mixology workshop, equipping all-comers with enough know-how to serve this most revered of drinks to anyone who rocks up on their doorstep. James Bond would certainly not approve. (Or actually, he might not give a damn.)

Colonial Queerness: Can You Only Be Queer in the West? | Thu 12 Mar | 6pm - 7.30pm | £10/£5 conc

Each month, Dr Monica Pearl hosts the QCQ Queer Culture Questions, facilitating a discussion of the things that matter in queer film, art, books and ideas right now. The topic for March’s event is ‘Colonial Queerness’ – a broad theme that includes questions such as whether gender and sexuality mean the same thing globally, and what queer existence has to do with global politics. Nibbles and new ideas provided. It’s worth noting that Dr Monica Pearl will also be guiding Queer Theory for Queer Artists on Sunday 1 March with Jackie Stacey.

Sustainable Fashion Clothes Swap Shop - Jeneral Store | 8 & 19 Mar | 3pm & 6pm | £10

Circular fashion hub Jeneral Store’s Sustainable Fashion Clothes Swap Shop takes place at Cultureplex twice in March, on Sunday 8 March at 3pm and Thursday 19 March at 6pm. The format for both is the same: ticket holders bring up to five quality items of clothing (FYI the standard is high) or accessories (not including jewellery) in exchange for tokens to shop rails full of pre-loved style, including over 100 items Jeneral Store already has in stock. Grab a complimentary drink on arrival and shop at leisure.

HEARD Storytelling | Sun 29 Mar | 4pm - 6pm | From £3

HEARD is a storytelling event where all stories must be true, personal and around five minutes long. This month’s theme is ‘home’ – whatever that means to you. Arrive with a story or just six back and listen; everyone and every story is welcome.
